Pietermaai

BijBlauw is located in Pietermaai. One of the liveliest areas of Willemstad. Pietermaai is named after the Dutch captain Pieter de Meij, who sailed to Curaçao around 1674. Where the neighbourhood led a poverty-stricken existence in the 1970s and 1980s, Pietermaai has been renovated over the last years into a hip, characteristic, working-class neighbourhood where you could experience a lot. Pietermaai is known as a lively, trendy and artistic neighbourhood where it is a coming and going of tourists, locals and students. Having a beer will be easy in one of the many cafes in the area. You should walk through the cosy, colourful alleys of Pietermaai and find the work of ambitious, young artists in a number of studios. Even for a lazy afternoon sunbathing you don’t have to go far.

Because of the fact that the neighbourhood has not been renovated entirely, Pietermaai still has kept her unique, intimate atmosphere. Have you been to all the cafés, shops and ateliers Pietermaai has to offer? Pietermaai lies next to the centre of Willemstad with the area’s Punda and Otrabanda. Here you will find a lot of opportunities to go out, visit restaurants, boutiques, local markets, cinemas and of course the world famous Handelskade! The favourable location of BijBlauw contributes to the ultimate enjoyment of Curaçao and all the nice things around you.
